What are we building?
We’re looking at apps that can use a marker, or markerless AR kit, to project an image or object into the real world when looking through the device, such as a phone or tablet.
Augmented Reality, or AR for short, can be used to show objects such as 3D drawings, building plans, layouts, AR is common with games as it can bring animated objects into a familiar environment and add a new dimension of interactivity.
How would we go about this?
AR Kit + 3D Object + Device + a surface = basic Augmented Reality. It does not take much to produce a simple app. However, marker AR, where a real-world object is used as a reference point, can produce more interactive and impressive results. Ideally, 3D content is the starting point – and then you look to how you would like to display this content.

Connecting the app to any kind of Content Mangement System will add time
Using Marker AR over Markerless AR will require identification of markers for the app, and a method of deploying them into the app.
Often, AR apps in the construction industry require multiple users to install the app and share content
Adding any kind of interaction, be it turning lights on and off in a building model, or gaming elements, will add complexity
Using iOS or Android AR Kits, Augmented Reality apps have a relatively low entry point for building a basic working model. However, any additional complexity to the app – uniquely interactive elements – add to the time required.
